Although some winter weather that was expected to hit areas of the Valley has passed, the Virginia Department of Transportation was ready just in case the area did get hit with ice and snow.
Sandy Myers, VDOT's Staunton District public relations manager, says crews planned to use a combination of salt and sand to keep road conditions more drivable.
The salt helps melt the ice and snow and the sand gives drivers more traction. Crews also made plans to fan out in order to cover as many areas as possible.
"They are probably going to be stationed at various areas around the area to monitor the road, and once there is enough accumulation on the roads for those snow plows to start plowing, they will certainly do that," says Myers.
