Icy weather can be blamed for an increased number of visits to the emergency room. Officials at Rockingham Memorial Hospital say, when there's ice on the ground, the number of accidents from people falling goes up.
Most of the injuries are to the hip and pelvic area, as well as the arm, which usually breaks a fall.
However, medical professionals say, if your head hits the pavement hard enough, it can cause severe damage.
"Ice is something you can not see. You're on it before you ever realize it, and you've fallen, and we really have an increase among the elderly folks, and small children," says Wanda Hollen, a licensed practical nurse at RMH.
Hollen also says you should avoid going out in the ice if you can.
