Thursday afternoon, a young black bear was spotted walking around University Ave in Harrisonburg.
Police officers treed the bear behind Quaker Steak and Lube. They kept him up there until a person with the Department of Game could safely capture him. They eventually tranquilized him so they could safely move him.
The biologist with the Department of Game thinks the cub is about one and a half.
For now, they are not sure where they will take him, but authorities said he will likely be released in a national park or a game reserve.
The Department of Game said this is common around this time of year. They said it is pretty typical for bears around his age to be seen without their mothers and that it is a time when the mother bears push their cubs out to live on their own so that they can then raise another cub.
