Both northbound lanes of Interstate 81 near mile marker 245 in Harrisonburg were closed after a fatal head-on collision.

Virginia State Police report a tractor trailer traveling southbound crossed the median and hit a van heading northbound head on.

It's believed a married couple from Buffalo, New York both died in that crash. The 38-year-old driver, Isaac Santos, died at the scene.

The passenger, Linda Solorzano, died while on the way to the hospital. She was 48 years old.

A tractor trailer heading southbound crossed the median and hit their van. The driver of that trailer is being charged with reckless driving for being distracted.

State police say he was possibly looking for something in the cab of the truck.

As both a volunteer and professional firefighter I have seen and worked a lot of traffic crashes on 81, and can attest that not all is poor driving from tractor trailers. I see passenger vehicles with drivers reading material, applying make up, and other dangerous activities. Like wise I have seen distractive driving from tractor trailers. I would say that the majority of incidents I have worked have not been tractor trailers. People are in such a rush they forget the basics about driving safely. Everyone needs to drive defensively and safely no matter the vehicle you are in. I agree something needs to be done to handle the congestion on 81, however that will not improve driver attitudes. Attitudes is something that can be fixed now in waiting for the answer to congestion. A family member of mine was behind the tractor and witnessed the crash. The did not observe any fishtailing or other movements. No matter this is very tragic. Thoughts and prayers to all involved. DRIVE SAFE SENSIBLE

Changes on I-81 are long overdue. With the amount of commercial traffic, its practically impossible to travel safely. Something needs to be done about this.

A committee in the House of Delegates has sent a bill to the House floor that would allow private, faith-based adoption agencies to discriminate against prospective parents based on their sexual orientation. Would you support this?

Yes, I think if it is a private organization it's okay.
No, there should be no discrimination.
It should depend on a case by case basis.
