New VA Budget Barely Meets Deadline

Deeply split over its first budget under new Democratic rule, the Senate hobbled out a version of the new state spending plan on a 22-18 vote Wednesday night.

Had the budget for the 2009 and 2010 fiscal years not passed, it would have left only a House-written version of it alive beyond a critical deadline.
