One man is in Page County Jail for allegedly killing a baby with his hands. A representative from the Page County Sheriff's Office said this is the first homicide in more than five years.

Page County Sheriff John Thomas said the alleged killer has changed his name several times. Sheriff Thomas said the baby was sent to the University of Virginia Medical Center Saturday with severe injuries. Then the baby died on Monday.

He said the alleged killer is the boyfriend of the baby's mother.

"Obviously anytime you have a death at someone else's hands and it's a homicide, it's extremely serious,” said Sheriff Thomas. “And when you're dealing with a 4-month-old child, it makes it that much more devastating to the community and to the parent."

Thomas said they do believe this suspect is involved in a gang and he is charged with aggravated malicious wounding of a child. Those charges could change now that the baby has died.
