As a screenwriter, Gregory Pincus says he's an expert on one thing, cliché's. He says that for commencement there is a very fitting cliché...Today is the first day of the rest of your life. He told the one-hundred fifty three graduates they could be anything they wanted to be, but the choice is up to them. In high school gregory pincus was given a label. "Oh i was definitely a geek." When he left high school he expected to pursue a career in computer science. After moving to las angeles and working as a media store clerk for five years, he sold his first screenplay which launched his career. "I literally was 5 years in the making to become an overnight success which wasn't anything more than actually starting my career." In his commencement speech at lee high school, pincus urged graduates to ignore the expectations their high school labels have made. "Stick to it and picking your own path and pursuing it is just so critical and you get pigeonholed by people putting labels and telling you what you should be doing, and that's never going to help you."
"I think it's an honor to have a graduate come back here, someone who's been out in the real world and been successful and mr. Pincus exemplifies what lee high school is all about, kids that graduate from here go out and do great things."
In closing pincus told the graduates that today they have a totally clean slate and to go out there and start living.
