State Police say the accidents were minor on I-81 between Rockingham County and Augusta County, but it was slow moving.

After 1 p.m., fender benders became a challenge. There were about 10-crashes in five hours. Only one had injuries and those were minor.

Officials say there isn't much they can do to keep these accidents from happening. "We had more people out there so we had a presence to make people slow down," said Sgt. R.D. Zullig. "It additionally gave us more people to respond once accidents did occur."

Sgt. Zullig says 81 is getting more crowded and attitudes are changing too. He says more people are buckling up, but they are driving faster and closer to the person in front of them.
