Ongoing budget negotiations in Richmond will be hitting close to home, in residents' wallets.

Virginia taxpayers shell out $20,000 for each day lawmakers spend beyond Saturday's General Assembly deadline to sort out the state's budget. Negotiations continued Monday and legislators will return Tuesday to vote on a compromise.

Partisan fights have held up this year's budget talks but Senator Mark Obenshain (R - 26th District) says an intense debate on key issues is a good thing.

"Those are the sorts of things on which fair-minded people can disagree, and we really need to have a legitimate debate. That doesn't mean it's rancorous or we're disagreeable. It just means we're doing our job in trying to fight for these principles," says Obenshain.

This is the fifth time since 2001 that a session has gone into overtime.

A committee in the House of Delegates has sent a bill to the House floor that would allow private, faith-based adoption agencies to discriminate against prospective parents based on their sexual orientation. Would you support this?

Yes, I think if it is a private organization it's okay.
No, there should be no discrimination.
It should depend on a case by case basis.
