New details in a 22-year-old murder case. A local woman was found dead in Harrisonburg in 1983. Now a suspect has been named, but he is still on the loose. Police say now they finally know who they are looking for. A federal grand jury indicted 50-year-old Ronald Jerome Jones, alias Alvin Lee Wilkins, on first degree murder charges.

He is accused of beating to death 28-year-old Sharon Kaye Johnson of 2531 Mosby Court back on August 20 of 1983. She was found at the Campbell Motel in Harrisonburg and died of her injuries seven days later. Officials say they hope the reopening of the case will mean justice can finally be served.

"This charge represents the combined efforts of the Harrisonburg police department and the city of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County Commonwealth's Attorney's Office to assure that no victim is ever forgotten,” says Harrisonburg Rockingham Commonwealth Attorney.

Jones is described as black man, six feet tall and weighing 170 pounds. His last known address was Greensboro, North Carolina. Anyone with information on his whereabouts should call investigator Mike Spiggle with the Harrisonburg Police Department at 540-434-2545
