K Through 8 No More

The school board is now considering two options.

The first includes K through 4th elementary schools, a city-wide 5th and 6th, a city-wide 7th and 8th and the high school would stay the same.

The second is the least expensive and most controversial. It includes K through 3rd elementary schools, a city-wide 4th and 5th grade and 6th through 12th would stay the same.

"What would the money be better spent on, servicing debt service, such as brick and mortar," said Ted Burr, a Harrisonburg parent. "Or, providing programs and teachers into the classroom?"

No one spoke out against the four-five configuration Tuesday night. And three board members said if they had to choose, that's the option they would go with.

The board is encouraging public input on the two options left for consideration.
