It's still not too late to beat those holiday heavies. Here's how you can trim your tree and your weight this season.

Weight loss consultant, Beverlee Kline, says it's hard to keep the weight off with so many holiday parties to attend, but she says it's possible.

"Before you go out, eat a nice big salad. Lots of veggies. And know that you can limit yourself," says Kline.

Cindy Williams, Marketing Director at Nautilas Fitness Center, says, "Keeping that holiday weight off means more trips to the gym. If you're going to be eating extra, you're going to have to work out extra."

Here's some more tips for avoiding holiday weight gain:

  • Accountability: It's helpful to have someone hold you accountable. Buy a scale to keep you aware of your weight.

  • Modify: If you plan to attend a party, cut back on your breakfast and lunch.

  • Healthy eating first: When you arrive, fill up on healthy food first.

  • Make choices: Allow yourself one or two fattening foods, but choose carefully.

  • Limit alcohol: And remember, alcohol is empty calories so limit yourself to one drink.
