A Charlottesville man is dead after driving the wrong way on Interstate 81 Saturday night. It happened just after midnight in Augusta County. State police say 56-year-old Charles Ross was headed south in the northbound lanes of 81 when he collided head on with a tractor trailer around mile marker 234. 35-year-old Gregory Fletcher of California was driving the tractor trailer. He walked away from the incident with no injuries. "His tractor trailer caught fire after the impact and the cab was totally destroyed by fire," said Sgt. Frank Pyanoe. Both the tractor trailer and Ross's 1990 Dodge Shadow were demolished. The northbound lane of 81 was closed for over five hours. No charges have been made at this time and police say it's unknown if alcohol was a factor in the crash.
