A Valley father is asking Fort Defiance High School to devote part of its spirit wall to the memory of his daughter.
Students have been painting the wall with messages since Amy Caracofe died in a car crash in January.
Her father, Doug Caracofe, says he's asking students to stop writing on the wall for now so a new mural can be painted on it.
However, he's also asking that ten feet of the wall be saved for students to write whatever messages they want on it.
Doug says, "A ten foot section would stop all the problems, painting over what the school does, that looks very good and very tasteful. I enjoy seeing it and I don't want it defaced."
The principal at Fort Defiance High School says he hasn't decided whether or not the school will devote the ten foot section of the wall to the students.

I am a graduate of FDHS as were my three boys Erik, Luke and Nick. For me and the family, that black painted wall and one cross sinfnaled an eternal change in our family and friends. Luke's friends were stunned by his death as was the other Fort families who have lost their children and there is a desparate need to find peace somehow. Each child remembered needs there place on the wall but we all have pride of honoring the living, thier skills and dreams to come. thanks to all for the honoring of our kids but as my son Luke was all about life, we keep the memory of ours and let the living shine as well
I am a 2007 graduate & also Amy's cousin. Many of you are making out that the present FDHS students are doing this to the wall. The anonymous user from HARRISOnBURG...stated that they were glad ther class had mor class than that. These kids are grieving so mind ur own business. Mr caracofe is right about leaving it alone. Lets wait til they give us that 10 ft piece & not ruin that. Harrisonburg User & Mr Landes needs to stop putting the blame on current & past FDHS students, if u'd read Amy's memorial page on myspace. u'd see who is destroying the wall. How are you going to call birthday wishes TACKY Weyers Cave User?? Our friend, cousin, love is dead & I dont think shes in heaven judging how tacky her bday wish is. When luke saufley passed, students painted the WHOLE wall in remembrance & i know it was left up for months..long enough for the students to move on. Landes left the first wall painting up only 2-3 days when its not even his wall to be touchin. Lets not get me started pleas.
Mr.Caracoffe makes a good point. I kno its had for most students here at fort. We miss her dearly she was an amazing gurl! I think that the 10 foot section is a good way then everyone gets part of what they want. Its hard on aour class but its the way some of us deal with our loss im not trying to say don't write on the wall but let the other students put up their art work up along with having a place designed for that as well. Amy will always be remembered and remain in our hearts! Along with Travis! We Miss You AMY AND TRAVIS!!
