A James Madison University student is in critical condition Monday afternoon after being hit by a car early Saturday morning.

Harrisonburg Police say the accident happened on Neff Avenue near the Stonegate Apartment Complex around 1 a.m. Saturday.

That's when they say 20-year-old Meghan Bain of New Jersey was struck by a car driven by 60-year-old Harrisonburg man.

Bain was transported to UVA Medical Center. The driver has not been charged.

Bain is a forward on JMU's field hockey team and a website dedicated to women's field hockey named her national rookie of the year last year.
