While many people may be glad that the abusive driver fees have been cut from the state budget, local governments are feeling an impact.

The state hasn't yet addressed how to replace the funding that the abusive driver fees were supposed to bring in. So, local governments are being asked to plan for a 44-percent reduction in state highway funds for construction on primary and secondary roads.

In Rockingham County, that may even effect major projects like the widening of Port Republic Road.

"They had addressed the Port Republic Road project in the funding project that was put together last year. We've yet to see what the impact of the reduction in funds will have on that project as well as a number of projects we have in the secondary road systems as well," says Joe Paxton, the Rockingham County Administrator.

Once the state finalizes the funding in April, the county will meet with VDOT officials to see what the exact impacts will be.

How dare the government impose abusive drivers fees in the first place. I am sick of the government control over our "free" country and it simply needs to stop. Everyone who voted to punish Virginia residents will be thrown out of office this next election.
