A member of the Harrisonburg City Council has become involved in efforts to oust the city treasurer from her job.

Councilwomen Carolyn Frank says she has signed a petition that claims Treasurer Becky Neal acted outside of her authority. Neal has been indicted on charges of fraud.

Frank says she also took the petition around to her neighbors and friends to sign.

The organizer of the petition says he is close to the 553 signatures needed to start a court process against Neal.

Meanwhile, Neal is due in circuit court this Thursday.
