HARRISONBURG, Va -- A crime sting from Wednesday night was called Operation Joint Effort.

Several agencies came together to set up five checkpoints, which led to 55 tickets and one arrest. Random house visits helped law enforcement arrest seven people on drug possession. Most of those cases involved marijuana.

Virginia State Police also chased and caught a man who eluded them on I-81.

Leaders call this operation very successful.

“It was absolutely wonderful,” said Mark Campbell with the RUSH Drug Task Force. “The professionalism and everything from the officers in each department. They jumped in. Took their assignment. They ran with them. Ran like a good machine.”

The suspect in the car chase, 22-year-old Slone Arthur, hit a Harrisonburg police officer near another checkpoint on Washington St.

Police say there will be a similar operation in the future.
