A sheriff's deputy in Tennessee who shot and killed a man during a high-speed chase has been identified.
Authorities say deputy Kevin Morrell fired two shots at 31-year-old Paul Anthony Thomas on Saturday when Thomas tried to run him over with his pickup truck.
One shot struck Thomas in the head, and he was pronounced dead on the scene. Morrell was hospitalized for minor injuries.
Investigators say Morrell's name had been withheld as a courtesy to his family while he recovered.
Officials say Thomas led the deputy on a chase that began in Sullivan County's rural northeast corner and ended at a dead-end road just over the state line in Virginia's Washington County.
Virginia and Tennessee law enforcement officials are investigating the incident.
