Amtrak service from Washington to Richmond and Newport News has resumed after a freight train derailment Thursday morning blocked service along the East Coast.
Amtrak says only one track was open on the route, so significant delays still were expected. The service disruption may continue through Friday.
Other trains affected include routes between New York and Charlotte, North Carolina, Savannah, Georgia, and Miami; and from Lorton to Sanford, Florida.
Fourteen cars of an 81-car freight train being pulled by a CSX locomotive derailed in Henrico County just after midnight, about 500 yards north of one of the Richmond train stations. The locomotive also jumped the tracks.
The train was en route to Rocky Mount, North Carolina, from Cumberland, Maryland. There were no injuries.
