Staunton Police are investigating cases of vandalism at the city's two largest parks. The first was reported at Montgomery Hall Park on Monday. Police say someone spray-painted graffiti on a sign and a rock chimney in the park. At Gypsy Hill Park, police say someone broke down the "Rules" sign that is located by the skate park on Tuesday night. That will cost more than $1,100 to replace.
Also in Staunton, an arrest has been made in a case that was featured last month on Crime Where You Live. Stuart Walker Holsinger, of Swoope, was arrested this week and charged with a hit and run at the Food Lion. Police say Holsinger caused $3,000 of damage, then drove away from the store back in February.
The Augusta County Sheriff's Office reports that someone stole hundreds of dollars in property from a vehicle near Stuarts Draft. The break-in happened on Saturday night, on Townhouse Lane. The stolen items include a purse and wallet, some identification documents, an iPod, cash, and a credit card. The items are valued at $1,351.
Harrisonburg Police are also investigating some break-ins. Police say 13 residential break-ins have already happened this month as well as two commercial break-ins.
In Shenandoah County, Sheriff's deputies are reporting an unusual number of vehicles being stolen so far this year. A 2006 silver Jeep Liberty was taken from Old Bethel Road in Edinburg on Friday night. It was parked in front of a home, and the stolen Jeep is worth $15,000. Deputies warn that too many people are leaving their cars unlocked with the keys inside.
