Over the past three months, 15 citizens have gone on patrol rides, taken target practice, and rehearsed for the SWAT team. While in class they learned about traffic control, criminal investigation, and the many other duties of an officer. Those who took part say now they have a better appreciation of what police officers do in Harrisonburg.

"I had no idea how much was involved with the police department," said participant Ashlie Dovel.

"They are putting their life on the line every day, and I don't think anyone shows enough appreciation for what they actually have to go through,” participant Doug Dunkle said.

Included in the graduating class are WHSV reporters Laura Speakman and Chay Lee.
