First responders working to help those in need after Hurricane Katrina now need help of their own.
The National Volunteer Fire Council has established a fund to give assistance to volunteer firefighters who have been devastated by the storm.
The Verona Volunteer Fire Department says the firefighters in the Gulf region will need more than protective gear and hoses; their families need help too.
"They'll still need toiletries, families will need clothes, because they are all volunteer, the money they were bringing in came from the people who are now victims themselves so all of the sudden they are without their donations," says Verona Fire Chief, Perry Weller.
The Verona Fire Department has already been collecting items to send to the victims and they are now looking into adopting a fire house down South
