Now that the Harrisonburg School Board is moving forward with getting the land for its new school complex, safety issues have been raised.Concerns are that the track is near the proposed school site at Smithland and County Club Road.School board members say this is an excellent location. The school would be several hundred yards from the train tracks with a service road between the two.Board members say the land is in a great location because it won't take much to make it suitable for construction. And they also expect more housing devlopments to be built in the area." It's in the right area it had got the right layout and it is going to work very well for our students and it is also going to work very well when we spend tax payers dollars to develop that property," says school board chair Dr. Cathy Slusher.
The board hopes to have the school built and occupied by the fall of 2007.
