Last Friday's gang-related shooting has inspired the victim's family to help make a difference.

Patricia Pannell has started the David Pannell Jr. Fund to make sure other families don't suffer the same tragedy.

David was not in a gang she says, but was gunned down for wearing a blue bandana, the symbol of the alleged shooter's rival gang.

She wants the money to help save children from falling in with the wrong crowd.

"They may have David in the ground, his spirit may be in heaven but I've got him here in my heart," Patricia said. "He'll be in the hearts of many people. So, if people can just help us out and work together as a community and the world to save our kids. That's really my mission, to save the kids."

You can send donations for the David Pannell Jr. Fund to the Destiny Family Center at 36 Rose Avenue, Stuarts Draft, VA 24477.

Family and friends will gather there for the funeral Friday morning at 11 a.m.
