The Rockingham County Sheriff's Office is investigating the daytime burglary at a residence located along Port Republic Road near the intersection with Highway 276 in the Cross Keys area of Rockingham County.
On Tuesday, November 19 between the hours of 11:00 am and 3pm unknown person or persons gained entry through the rear kitchen door. Once inside, the house was ransacked and several items were taken. Items stolen were an antique fiddle (1700's model), U.S. silver coins, and several guns including a Marlin 30/30 rifle with a gold trigger.
A witness observed a large burgundy sports utility vehicle, possibly occupied by two individuals in the victim's driveway. The vehicle had a yellow plastic covering on the outside back window that partially covered the driver's side. One individual was wearing a blue jacket, light colored pants and a baseball style cap. The vehicle was later spotted at the intersection of Port Republic Road and Oakridge Road.
