Nineteen percent of seventh graders in the U.S. say they have thought about suicide. In Waynesboro 30 percent say they have thought about taking their own life. Needless to say, school officials are a bit concerned.
"One child thinking about suicide is one child to many,” commented Pat Culkins, head nurse at Waynesboro.
Although there have been no reported suicides in the Waynesboro School System in recent history, school officials are taking no chances.
"We will increase our suicide prevention education to all teachers and employees of the Waynesboro School System," commented Culkins. "We need to be aware."
