The Augusta County School Board had a changing of the gavel at its first school board meeting of 2003.
Former vice chairman Dr. Alan White received the gavel from the out going chairman Nicholas Collins.
This will be White's 8th year on the board.
He says as chairman he hopes to continue to move forward with the programs they currently have and do more for the teachers this year.
White says middle school construction is still on the board's agenda, they're just looking at options to bring down the cost.
"I hope that we can do that," said White. "Then we might be able to move forward with the Board of Supervisors, they have shown some interest in going forward if we can get things down to a lower level."
Leigh Ann Hinson was voted vice chairperson of the school board.
