An armed woman in her forties resisted police at an apartment behind 1330 Rosser Avenue.
After an hour of negotiating with officers, she released her mother and teen daughter unharmed. She later threw a loaded .25 caliber handgun out the front door.
Police said the woman surrendered at 12:45 Saturday afternoon. She was then taken to Valley Mental Health Center to be evaluated.
Philip Broadfoot, Waynesboro Police Chief, explained: "We were able to over the course of the next 2 hours calm her down and get her mother and daughter to leave the house. They did and then to talk her out of the house peaceably."
Police are not releasing the woman's name at this time. They say her daughter's desire to move out may have triggered the incident.
