Dayton Students Return to Classrooms After Report of Possible Fire

DAYTON-- Wilbur Pence Middle School was evacuated this morning for a possible fire, but the students have been returned to the classrooms.

Rockingham County School Superintendent Dr. Carol Fenn said there was a smoke odor coming from the library. It was from an electrical malfunction with the HVAC belt. It is being repaired, but everything is considered safe.

Students waited in warm buses outside or inside Turner Ashby High School. The school was evacuated for about an hour.

The call came into the Harrisonburg-Rockingham ECC at 7:42 a.m. this morning from someone inside the school.
