A Waynesboro woman has been charged with felony child neglect after a child in her care was found wondering the streets.
A three-year-old boy was found walking alone at about 4 a.m. Saturday morning near the 7-Eleven on Ivy Street in Waynesboro.
Police later received a call from a woman at Mountain View Apartments about a missing child.
After talking to 40-year-old Lydia Leyja, police arrested her. Leyja told TV-3 she checked on the boy at 4:30 a.m. and he was fine.
"I looked at the clock beside me and I seen the child on the floor," said Leyja, "that is where I left him with a blanket."
Leyja says the boy was able to get out of the back door despite having a chair up against it.
If convicted, Leyja could face up to five years in jail and a $2,500 fine.
The child is in the care of the Waynesboro Department of Social Services.
