Prince William County supervisors have tentatively decided against installing video cameras in county police cars, which would slash funding for illegal-immigration enforcement.

The decision comes after Board of County Supervisors Chairman Corey Stewart proposed $21 million in budget cuts Tuesday, delaying a planned vote on the county's spending plan for the coming year.

Installing video cameras and monitoring the footage would cost $3.1 million. That accounts for much of the $6.9 million in the coming year's budget for illegal-immigration measures.

Police Chief Charlie Deane had requested cameras to protect the county against allegations of racial profiling as officers check the residency status of criminal suspects who they think are in the country illegally.
