The petition to remove Harrisonburg Treasurer Rebecca Neal from office is now being verified by the city voter registrar.

The registrar will certify the number of registered Harrisonburg voters who signed the petition, and the total number of votes cast in the last election for treasurer.

The petition needs 553 valid signatures in order to move forward. A petition containing 701 signatures was turned in Tuesday.

The verification process may be completed as early as Thursday.
