A community's effort to curb gang violence was re-visited Thursday night.
With the goal to be pro-active, the second of two town meetings took place in Staunton's Gyspy Hill Park. Rockingham County's Community Services Board discussed the effects of media on children. A number of people were in attendance, including the parents of David Pannell Junior, who was murdered in Staunton earlier this summer for wearing a blue bandana.
Following the meeting, an emotional candle light vigil was held in honor of Pannell. Thursday, would have been Pannell's 23rd birthday. In his memory, friends and family spoke, sang, and released balloons into the air. Pannell's accused killer is in custody and is currently waiting to be tried.
