About 70 percent of highway construction projects completed in Virginia during the past six months were finished late.
That dismal news from the state's top transportation official, who added that almost a third of the projects ended more than four months behind schedule.
Virginia Department of Transportation Commissioner Philip Shucet delivered the agency's first-ever quarterly performance report to the Commonwealth Transportation Board Wednesday.
He says only 29 percent of ongoing construction projects are on track to meet their future deadlines, and 40 percent are over budget.
Shucet says the department still has a cash shortage. He said that as of Wednesday the department had about a week's worth of cash for construction and maintenance.
