The acting city treasurer for Harrisonburg hopes to bring some normalcy to the office, after former treasurer Rebecca Neal's suspension on Friday.

Jeffrey Shafer, acting city treasurer, spent the first day on the job taking on mainly administrative duties and meeting with his staff. On Friday, Shafer was sworn in as the acting city treasurer.

He says right now he's focused on establishing morale in the office and also looking into changing some of the policies in the office.

"I'm just trying to take a big overview of where things are, speak with those that I can go to for advice or support and then to make a decision," says Shafer.

On Friday, Shafer reinstated Cindy Fitzwater to her position as chief deputy treasurer. He is meeting with Diane Nardi Tuesday regarding her status after she was fired by Neal a week and a half ago.
