University of Richmond, Henrico County and City of Richmond police departments announced Wednesday they have arrested a man as a result of an investigation into reports of a person carrying a handgun Tuesday on the UR campus.

Seth Adam Newman, age 19, of the 1700 block of Chadwick Drive in Henrico County, has been charged with one felony count for hiding his identity and two misdemeanor counts for impersonating a law enforcement officer and for acting like a law enforcement officer.

Tuesday afternoon, a suspect matching Newman's description was seen wearing a holster containing a handgun as he exited the Boatwright Library on the UR campus. The police do not know at this time if the gun was real or not.

Officials immediately responded to the report, locked down the campus, and searched all of the buildings, grounds, and nearby neighborhoods for the suspect.

When the suspect was first spotted, he was wearing a fake beard, a brown jacket with "Sheriff" printed across the back, and carrying a green bag. Library employees asked the suspect to leave the building and they immediately notified the UR police. The suspect was later seen removing the fake beard and brown jacket.

The university was open for normal operations Wednesday, but most of the students are not on campus because undergraduate classes ended last week.
