Will Execution Go Forward?

Winchester residents will find out Thursday if the United States Supreme Court will review the case of Edward Nathaniel Bell.

If the Supreme Court agrees to hear Bell's case, it would most likely mean yet another delay in his execution.

Bell was convicted of killing Winchester Police Sgt. Rickie Timbrook nearly ten years ago.

Bell was suppose to be executed by lethal injection on April 8, but Governor Tim Kaine put a temporary moratorium on executions while waiting to see if lethal injection is constitutional.

The moratorium was lifted after the Supreme Court justices voted to uphold the use of lethal injection. Bell is currently scheduled to die July 24.

Healthcare CEO

The president and CEO of the region's largest healthcare system will retire at the end of the year.

Michael Halseth announced his retirement at Valley Health's semi-annual luncheon meeting earlier this week.

He joined Valley Health ten years ago, and had served as the executive director of the UVA Medical Center before that.

Halseth will remain a part-time consultant to the organization through 2009.
