Rockingham County schools just released the results of a survey that shows what its employees would like to see done.

The survey found the biggest issue across the board was compensation and benefits. Next, most teachers said they'd like to see more respect at work.

Faculty, staff and the school board all came together to hear those results Monday night.

More than 1,000 employees participated in it, and questions ranged from how they like working in this school system to whether they like their class sizes.

More than 90 percent of employees said the school system is "good" or "excellent" overall, but school board members say they now recognize the problems they need to improve.

"The part that concerns me is more the trust and respect piece, now that's something that we can address, but it may be that the compensation piece is indirectly related to that, but we don't want to just write that off as such," said Dan Breeden, chairman of the Rockingham County School Board.

About 70 percent of the participants said they need better pay and more respect in the workplace.
