The Virginia Defense Force says it is establishing a new security unit in Richmond.

The new unit will be located at the Virginia National Guard readiness center and will support the Virginia National Guard in securing public sites for the safety of civilians and traffic management.

Maj. Gen. John D. Taylor, commander of the force, says they are seeking volunteers for the unit. Membership is open to Virginia residents ages 16 to 64 with or without prior military service. They also must have a valid social security number and no felony convictions.
