State aid to libraries has dropped about 25 percent this year.
Librarians booked it to Richmond last week to meet with lawmakers. And, according to the State Library, no further cuts are in the forecast.
But Massanutten Regional Library Director Phil Hearne isn't so sure that the budget axe has stopped swinging, so he has contingency plans in place.
"If we lose further state aid for Massanutten Regional, I think our next step would be to reduce hours, probably evenings, weekends, and of course, that would mean a reduction in some staff," Hearne said.
The library is asking patrons to buy and donate books in its "Have a Heart" campaign. Just in time for Valentine's Day, it's your chance to help keep the shelves stocked.
