Longwood University's governing board has approved a four-percent tuition increase.

One-fourth of the increase approved Saturday will be dedicated to financial aid.

Total costs, including room and board, will increase 7.1 percent, from $14,334 to $15,358 per year for in-state residential students. For out-of-state residential students, total costs will go up 5.8 percent, from $22,654 to $23,971 per year.
