George Mason University will receive $7 million in federal funding over the next five years to run a Web site to train elementary and high school history teachers.

Kelly Schrum, director of educational projects at George Mason's Center for History and New Media, said the site is designed to be the most comprehensive resource available for teachers who specialize in American history.

The Web site, which began this week, features a searchable database of state standards and an online discussion with education experts on current trends.

Schrum said seven to ten staff members and a few undergraduates at the university will keep the Web site up to date with the latest data and state standards.
