A cold case warms up as Albemarle County police make an arrest in a 20-year-old murder.

Alvin Lee Morris has been charged with the murder of Roger Lee Shifflett.

Police say Morris shot Shifflett at the Southwind Grocery Store in Albemarle County on the morning of June 20, 1988. An employee later found Shifflett shot in the back of the head.

Morris faces charges of first degree murder, robbery and use of a firearm in commission of a felony.

Albemarle Police Chief John Miller says a combination of new and old evidence broke the case, the first cold case that's been broken in his 19 years with the department.
