The West Virginia Public Port Authority in Huntington has received nearly $2.4 million in Port Security Grant Program money.
The money is part of more than $844 million in grants awarded by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security as part of its Infrastructure Protection Activities grant program.
West Virginia was also awarded nearly $600,000 through the department's Zone Protection Program.
The awards are to go toward strengthening security at ports and enhancing transit, trucking and intercity bus systems. The focus is on preventing, protecting against, responding to and recovering from terrorist attacks, major disasters and other emergencies.
