Law enforcement officials in the northern Valley are thanking one local citizen for helping them catch an alleged bank robber.

The robbery happened at Rappahannock Bank in Winchester Monday afternoon. Sheriff's deputies say the robber pulled a gun on the teller and demanded money.

The teller gave him some cash, and the robber drove away in a Ford pickup truck. However, before the robber drove away, a man from the neighborhood took a picture of the truck's license plate.

Deputies used the evidence to find the truck about an hour after the robbery and make an arrest.

Maj. R.C. Eckman, Frederick County Sheriff's Office, says, "They are our ears. They are our eyes of this department. In this particular case, we could not have had a quick apprehension had it not been for the citizenary."

The suspect, Jacob Scott Mills, is charged with robbery and using a firearm to commit a felony. He's being held at the Northwest Regional Adult Detention Center.
