Just when residents thought the extreme sports park proposal at Expoland in Fishersville had quieted down, the developer is making a new proposal.
In December, the county board of zoning and appeals tabled the park, and had a sound test performed to see if it would be too loud for residents. The board of zoning then gave the park the green light in March, but the board of directors for Expoland halted the project.
Now, that developer, Terry Argenbright, says he's made an offer to purchase all of Expoland. However, he says it's not just for the sake of putting in the park. He says he wants to save Expoland. Argenbright says he wants to turn Expoland into an entertainment hub for the community.
"My total offer really is to save Expo," says Argenbright.
After receiving approval from the board of zoning and spending time and money for an extreme sports park, Argenbright doesn't understand why the Expoland board won't allow him to build the park.
"Expo is getting ready to sell land that will land lock their entrance, which could inevitably get rid of the fair and the monster truck show cause there's no other entrance in there that VDOT will approve," says Argenbright. "They don't know how to run a business."
That's why he's making an offer to purchase the 188-acre site. However, residents say they don't think Argenbright really wants to save Expoland as much as he wants to build the extreme sports park.
"He misled Expo. He misled the county as far as the zoning board is concerned, and I think this is another step to mislead the whole community," says Henry Moffett, who is against the sports park.
Still, Argenbright claims the Expoland board has run Expoland into a million dollars of debt, and he wants to turn it into a tax-based business.
"We will be offering the citizens ownership ability that way the families in this community will know that it will always be there, that the land can never be sold off, and it will be here for the families today and tomorrow," says Argenbright.
The president of the board of directors for Expoland said he wasn't making any comment until he sees the actual offer. Argenbright said the board should receive his offer in a letter Wednesday. The Expoland board of directors owns the land and it's not currently up for sale.

I dont know why people are against this. The noise will be not different than the interstate or the hospital. Let some fun come to this area so we don't have to go of town for fun. Also if this does not work, than why not try Eastside Speedway. They have plenty of land and I am sure the people (like me 1/2 mile away) would not complain, like the ones in fishersville.
