Governor Tim Kaine is urging business leaders to help him win passage of a transportation funding plan.

Kaine told Richmond-area business leaders Wednesday that doing nothing in a June 23 special legislative session is unacceptable. House Republicans already are speaking out against Democrat Kaine's proposal to raise various taxes and fees to pay for highway and mass transit projects.

Kaine said if legislators don't like his plan, they should offer their own suggestions. He encouraged the business executives to contact their lawmakers and urge them to do that.

Kaine's proposal has regional and statewide components. He told reporters after his speech that he would find it tough to accept just a regional solution that does not include a plan to fill a $375-million deficit in highway maintenance statewide.

Let the area that needs the repairs come up with the money, not us out here in the mountains.

A committee in the House of Delegates has sent a bill to the House floor that would allow private, faith-based adoption agencies to discriminate against prospective parents based on their sexual orientation. Would you support this?

Yes, I think if it is a private organization it's okay.
No, there should be no discrimination.
It should depend on a case by case basis.
