Expansion Approved
The Frederick County Board of Supervisors voted Wednesday night on Chemstone Quarry's request to expand.
However, not everyone in Frederick County was happy about the final decision as people on both sides of the issue had something to say on it.
Some homeowners worry about their property adjoining the quarry, but others supported the industry because of the jobs it will create and the additional businesses that will prosper.
In the end, the board approved the application for expansion by a vote of four to three. An opposition group, Preserve Frederick County, plans to appeal the decision within the next 30 days.
Police Chief Search
In Winchester, the city has to start over in its search for a new police chief.
After months of vetting candidates for the Winchester Police Chief position, officials decided none of the hopefuls are the right fit.
Winchester City Manager Brannon Godfrey says the decision to review a new applicant pool wasn't easy and wasn't decided upon for a number of weeks.
The police chief position has been vacant since October.
The city will immediately begin advertising again for the position. While no time-table has been set, officials say anything less than three months is unlikely.
