A volunteer physician with the Harrisonburg High School football team spoke out at Tuesday night's city school board meeting.

Dr. Brett Barnes expressed concern that he was not consulted during the independent investigation into alleged drug use by some of the football players.

The school's investigation was meant to ensure that established policies were followed correctly.

Barnes also spoke about a fellow volunteer doctor, Walter Green III.

"We were there before games. We were there after games," says Barnes. "And we, I think, would be the best ones to judge if someone is using drugs or is abusing drugs."

The board went into closed session at the end of the meeting to discuss the investigation and other items.

School Board Chairwoman Kerri Wilson says they are still trying to determine what information they can release to the public from the report of the investigation.
